The Preserving the Past, Securing the Future (PPSF) project is welcoming applications for its international training programme on sustainability for WWII remembrance and cultural heritage institutions. The application deadline is end of January 2026, giving professionals across Europe the opportunity to join this unique learning journey.
Designed for staff working in heritage sites, museums, interpretation centres, and remembrance tourism organisations, the PPSF Training Programme offers a practical and forward-looking opportunity to strengthen your organisation’s resilience while connecting with a committed European network of peers.
The programme equips participants with the knowledge, tools, and inspiration needed to embed environmental, social, and economic sustainability into their daily work and long-term strategies. Through a dynamic mix of e-learning modules, in-person workshops, study visits, and peer-to-peer exchange, participants will gain hands-on insights and concrete approaches to drive meaningful and lasting change.
The journey begins with three e-learning modules, which are a prerequisite for participation in the in-person trainings. These self-paced courses cover environmental responsibility and climate action at heritage sites, social inclusion, community engagement and accessibility, and economic resilience, governance, and sustainable business models. Together, they create a shared foundation and prepare participants for deeper collaboration during the workshops.
The first in-person workshop will take place on 16–17 February 2026 in Courseulles-sur-Mer, France, focusing on environmental responsibility, introducing concrete strategies for reducing the ecological footprint of memorial sites and linking theory to practice through study tours and collaborative exercises. The Study Visit will take place at Juno Beach Centre.
This opening training combines expert input, peer learning, and on-site exploration. Two further workshops will follow: in Gdańsk, Poland, in April 2026, with a focus on social sustainability and community relations, and in Lucca, Italy, in June 2026, dedicated to economic sustainability and institutional planning.
Why take part?
By joining the PPSF Training Programme, you will strengthen the long-term relevance and integrity of your organisation, engage visitors through sustainability-driven approaches, and build practical skills within your team. You will also increase the visibility and credibility of your sustainability efforts and improve access to EU and national funding opportunities, partnerships, and networks.
